The Supporting the Choice to Die at Home campaign in Wales
The Supporting the Choice to Die at Home campaign was launched in Wales on June 13, 2006 at an evening reception at the National Assembly of Wales, attended by Dr Brian Gibbons, the Health and Social Services Minister.
The Supporting the Choice to Die at Home campaign aims to show how most people, if possible, would prefer to die at home, rather than in a hospital.
Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Medical Advisor, Dr Teresa Tate said:
“Our survey shows that the majority of people would like to die at home, but currently only around a quarter of cancer patients achieve this wish.”
The charity has also released an economic report showing that caring for more patients at home would release funds which could be used elsewhere in the NHS.
